Description

Gravity Luffing Arm Type Davit – Compact, Reliable Lifeboat Launch System by CMEC FJCN

The Gravity Luffing Arm Type Davit by CMEC FJCN is an efficient, gravity-powered launching and recovery system designed for lifeboats and rescue boats on merchant ships, passenger vessels, and offshore platforms. Engineered for safe, fast, and fail-proof evacuation, this davit system utilizes gravity force and a pivoted slewing arm to enable reliable deployment with minimal manual effort.

Its simple mechanical structure, coupled with a hydraulic damping system, ensures stable lowering even during emergency power failure. The luffing arm rotates outward over the ship’s side to deploy the boat into the water and returns inward for compact stowage. It is especially suited for deck spaces with limited clearance or restricted vertical access.

Key Features and Advantages:

  • Gravity-powered luffing arm operation – eliminates reliance on external power

  • Hydraulic shock absorber system – smooth and controlled lowering

  • Single or double arm configuration – compatible with various lifeboat sizes

  • Compact installation footprint – ideal for retrofitting or space-limited decks

  • Manual hoisting with winch system – for retrieval after drills or rescues

  • Anti-corrosive marine-grade construction – long service life

  • Compliant with SOLAS, IMO, and LSA Code

The system includes a hand-operated winch, high-tensile wire ropes, cradle structure, pivoting luffing arms, and a damping cylinder. It is available in custom sizes and load ratings depending on vessel class and lifeboat type.

Technical Specifications:

  • Working Load Capacity: 15 kN – 35 kN

  • Lowering Speed: 0.3 – 1.0 m/s (automatically adjusts with load)

  • Slewing Radius: Up to 90° outward from deck

  • Materials: Carbon steel with epoxy marine coatings

  • Hoisting System: Manual winch or optional electric motor

  • Operating Temperature: -30°C to +60°C

  • Certifications: DNV, CCS, ABS, BV, LR, NK

This davit type is designed for fail-safe operation—in an emergency, it automatically begins lowering once the boat is released from its cradle, ensuring rapid deployment. The self-balanced pivot arms make it easy to return the boat after drills, while the low maintenance design reduces long-term operational costs.

All CMEC FJCN davits are tested in accordance with IMO MSC.81(70) and MSC.226(82), and shipped with comprehensive operation manuals and global support. Onboard crew training, system commissioning, and after-sales services are also available upon request.

Whether for lifeboat or rescue boat applications, the Gravity Luffing Arm Davit remains a preferred solution for compact, efficient marine evacuation systems.
